This years event was held at the Hellenic Club in Woden a suburb of Canberra. The venue was first class as was the playing conditions and associated facilities for the players and spectators.
I offered our support and congratulations to President Lee Beswick and the ACT Darts Council on an outstanding event, front start to finish.
This year we had self contained rooms at Kingston Apartments and this was a very satisfactory haven at the end of a long day and very much appreciated by all players and officials.
The success of the men was very meritorious given we were written off by many who claim to know darts but fail to understand the desire to succeed that was very evident from our players from the outset. I am very humbled by the manner in which each and every individual managed themselves and displayed outstanding team spirit and camaraderie. Nigel and Howard had no opportunity in the teams event and took the rationale behind the decision with great dignity, a real credit to their character.
The smooth running of the team is in no small part to the role that the Team Manager plays and Glen McLeod was an excellent contributor to our success. He managed all situations as they arose and his organisational skills were tested a few times, no more than when we departed the first day to Canberra. A very professional approach was displayed by Glen and showed through in how we managed as a team.

Congratulations
Australian selection for Natalie Carter and Justin Miles to play in Canada in October.
Men’s Rookie at the Australian Championships goes to our very own “Wookie” Kyle Boden, he had an outstanding all round championship and he richly deserved the award as “Rookie” 2013.
Our support crew of Peg Morton and Patsy Howard supported us to the hilt, they were a treat to have around and the men’s team appreciated their invaluable support, thanks girls and look forward to your support again in 2014.
In finalising my words I appreciate the opportunity to participate in the event as the captain of a first class crew in this years championship. Adelaide 2014 beckons and I would sincerely hope that Glen has the bug as do I and we both put our hands up to at least go one better next year.
Yours in Darts
