STATE DOUBLES 15th JUNE 2024
An excellent weekend of darts, the events started with 63 pairs competing in the open and B grade men’s and ladies doubles.
Men’s Open Doubles
21 pairs competed in this event and were split into groups of 4 and 5, with the top 2 from each group progressing to the knockout stage.
Onto the quarter final knockout stage. Some really great games and close results.
Congratulations to the champions for 2024
DWA State Open Men’s Doubles Winners JESSIE SANTOS AND BRYCE SIMPSON
Runners up LINDSAY HAJI ALI AND DAVE BURKE.
Men’s B Grade Doubles
The B grade saw only one less pair and competed with 20 pairs split into 4 divisions. The same for the B grade, the top 2 from each group advancing to the knockout.
The quarter finals followed with some excellent darts, the scores not reflecting the closeness of the games. The semifinals were both very close leading to an excellent final. Darrin and Matt were on fire and unstoppable.
Congratulations to the champions for 2024
DWA State B Grade Men’s Doubles Winners DARRIN SIGLEY AND MATT MACHIN
Runners up ANTHONY ABRAHAMS AND JAMES ISAACS
Ladies Open Doubles
14 pairs competed in 2 division with the top 2 from each going through to the semifinals.
Group A saw Angela Clarke and Martekea Wilson win their group with Julie Lewis and Penny Stevens taking 2nd spot.
Group B was much closer and 3 pairs all won 5 of their 6 matches and were only separated by pegs. The pairing of sisters Kayleigh and Breanne Pickett were nipped at the post into 3rd place. A point of interest was the return of Kim Kelly to competition darts after a 2 year break.
Onto the Finals. The scores don’t reflect the closeness of the games with the ladies final being great to watch.
Congratulations to the champions for 2024
DWA State Open Ladies Doubles Winners TIARNA SMITH AND TAMARA BROWN
Runners up ANNETTE ASHWIN AND MICHELLE RODNEY.
DWA Ladies B Grade Doubles
There were 8 pairings in this event and the ladies were placed in one division, on 2 boards with the event being decided at the conclusion of the round robin. Christine Ramage and Kim Ware went through the Round robin undefeated; the other placings were nip and tuck with Karina Egan and Rochelle Williams taking the second spot.
Congratulations to the champions for 2024
DWA State B Grade Ladies Doubles Winners CHRISTINE RAMAGE AND KIM WARE
Runners up KARINA EGAN AND ROCHELLE WILLIAMS.
Thank you, as usual to BSRC for keeping the drinks and snacks flowing.
There were a few hiccups, especially in the ladies B grade with chalking, or rather the lack of it. A few players seem to think that if they had won a game they didn’t need to chalk, which obviously doesn’t apply in a round robin. In all events, despite being reminded before the start of play, all were scrambling for chalkers for the first round of the knockout. This is something the DWA committee are looking at.
All in all, the state doubles was an awesome event, with great darts being thrown. There were 39 180’s hit by the men and 4 by the ladies. Highest peg for the men was 155 by Lindsay Haji Ali and 120 for ladies hit by Martekea Wilson.
