STATE OPEN AND B GRADE SINGLES 16th JUNE 2024
Following on from the doubles, it was another good turnout of players for the singles with 99 players rocking up to compete.
Men’s Open Singles
37 men competed in this event and were spread across 4 groups with the top 4 from each advancing to the knockout section. All 4 groups were very competitive with Howard Jones, David Platt, Adam Rowe and Carl Caton topping their groups.
Finals
Round of 16 and quarter finals were awesome matches to watch with Carl and Lindsay going the full journey to the last leg, while Kimberly pushed an in form David Platt but lost out 4-2.
In the Semi Finals; Howard and Lindsay battled away but the form of Howard was too much for Lindsay and Howard came away with a 5-3 win. On the other board Adam Rowe and David Platt battled leg for leg with Adam emerging the victor with a 5-4 win.
In the Men’s Open final Howard continued his form and opened up an early lead while Adam fought back but eventually went down 6-2.

Men’s B Grade Singles
The B grade saw 33 competitors take part. As with the open event the men were split into 4 groups with 4 advancing to the knockout.
Finals
Round of 16 and quarter final games were very competitive leading into the semi finals. Dwayne continued his form and despite the closeness of the games came out victorious over Shane 4-2 while the score line was the same in the other semi final.
Men’s B Grade Singles Final
What a match, leg for leg with neither player giving an inch. It all came down to the last leg with Dwayne putting away the double with a 5-4 win over Daniel.

Ladies Open Singles
17 ladies competed and were split into 2 groups with the top 4 from each of the groups going through to the quarter finals
Despite not playing in many events this year Natalie Carter went through the round robin without dropping a game. In the 2nd group Angela Clarke and Annette Ashwin vied for the top spot with Angela clinching 1st place on legs count back.
In the Quarter finals; Natalie Carter continued her winning form over new player Freedom Patene (definitely a player to watch for), Kayleigh Pickett found her pegging form and defeated Annette Ashwin 3-1, Angela Clarke won her quarter final without dropping a leg against Tiarna Smith and Tamara had a convincing 3-0 win over Martekea Wilson.
In the semi finals; Kayleigh and Natalie battled leg for leg with Kayleigh taking out the semi 4-3, great game ladies. The other match was as good to watch with Tamara digging deep and taking out Angela 3-1.
The final was a great match and went leg for leg with both Kayleigh and Tamara giving it their all. Sadly there can be only one winner and Kayleigh came out victorious with a 5-4 win over Tamara. Bring on Moama ladies.

DWA Ladies B Grade Singles
12 ladies took part and were split into 2 groups with 2 from each group going straight to the semifinals.
In the semi finals Jordan Marsh and Laurel Bainbridge played a great game but the pegging of Laurel was on form and she claimed the match 3-1. In the 2nd semifinal, junior girl Brianna Pickett showed her skills and defeated Sue Merrivale 3-0. In the final Brianna continued her form and pegging prowess and took out the final 4-1 against Laural Bainbridge.
