WEST COAST CLASSIC 2023

This was held at the Belmont Sport and Rec Club on the weekend of 11/12th March 2023.

 

Saturday morning was an early start for the juniors competing in the WDF event. 5 girls and 8 boys took part playing their group round robins. The girls event saw Suzette Parker victorious over Brianna Pickett. The boys was a hard fought contest with the eventual winner being Ricky Pickett Jnr and the worthy runner up Terence Morton.

   

Following the junior event with trial of a later start saw a total of 55 pairs taking part. Men’s open 24 pairs, round robins in groups of 6 saw 16 pairs advance to the knockout section, the semi-finals saw Adam Rowe and Mark Dorotich take on and defeat Tom Wiley and Shane Ash 4-2, the second semi saw Vinay Cooper and Wayne Egan defeat Mark Smyth and Dylan Dunster 4-3. The very in form Adam and Mark played an awesome final against Vinay and Wayne, the scoreline of 5-1 did not reflect the closeness of the match. Finishing by Adam and Mark was outstanding.

Men’s B saw groups of 7 and 8 compete in their round robin with the top 4 advancing from each group. Semi 1 saw Steve Ireland and Rory harper advance over the junior pairing of Terence Morton and Charlie Dinnison, the 2nd semi saw Dwayne Punch and Des Hayward defeat Zac Greay and Jason Jeans. The final over best of 7 saw Steve and Rory come out victorious.

Ladies open – though only 8 pairs competing was very competitive. In group on Kayleigh Pickett and Jucinta Dann progressed through undefeated, 2 nd in the group was Shannon Dongara and Karina Egan, whose only loss was to Kayleigh and Jucinta. Group 2 saw Tamara and Kaitlin Brown again go through undefeated with Tiarna Smith and Jordan Clarke through with only one loss. Kayleigh and Jucinta showed their form in semi one by defeating Tiarna and Jordan. In the 2nd semi-Tamara and Kaitlan continued their unbeaten streak and won against Shannon and Karina. The final went down to the last leg with Tamara and Kaitlan emerging victorious.

The Ladies B saw the 8 pairs split into 2 round robin groups. Group one saw the pairing of junior player Suzette Parker and Charlie’s mum Cath win their group without a loss, also advancing was Helen Haywood and another of our junior players, Abby Aram. Group 2 was much closer seeing Teresa Farmer and Charlene Garces, win a play off over Jordan Marsh and Brinley Tregoning. Semi 1 saw Jordan and Brinley defeat Suzette and Cath, in semi 2 Teresa and Charlene were the winners over Helen and Abby. The final was a close fought match but the pegging power of Jordan and Brinley saw them come out victorious.

Sunday saw a total of 107 competitors. The Men’s West Coast Classic Open had 41 competitors spread across 8 groups. 2 from each group advanced to the last 32.

Kevin Thomas defeated James Mckenna 4-2 and Trent Cooper defeated Dave Burke 4- 3.

Final:
Kevin Thomas defeat Trent Cooper 5-0, the scoreline not reflecting the closeness of each leg.

Ladies B grade saw 18 ladies compete in 4 divisions.

Semi finals:
Suzette Parker continue her form and win over Kristina

Final
Great to watch and came down to the last leg. Our junior player Suzette Parker continued her winning form and defeated Sue Merival

The Ladies open saw a field of 12 compete in 2 divisions.

Semi finals:
Leann Randall hit her straps and defeated Julie Lewis 4-0, pegs being the downfall for Julie who was there in every leg.
Semi final 2 was a nailbiter with both ladies on form. The final score was Kayleigh 4 Michelle 3

Final
Both ladies gave it their all and took it all the way to the last leg with Leann Randall victorious 5-4 over Kayleigh Pickett.

36 competitors took part in the men’s B grade with 16 advancing from their boards.

Semi finals:
Mathew Colburg defeating Terry Carter, Steven Ireland defeating Steve Cullen, Ian Boyes defeating Aaron Nicholls and Dwayne Galby defeating Logan Warnest.
Steven won against Mathew and Dwayne fought his way to victory over Ian.

Final
It was worthy of any event and sway Steve Ireland victorious over Dwayne Galby.
